Be Leaders

We are hardwired for greed and seduced by advertising: climate change is an economic issue about curbing consumerism. Lindsay from The Netherlands wants to see a long-term focused global leadership force to regulate our way out of this trap.

    Hi Thoughtful video.
I agree that one of the problems is politicians, but perhaps we get the politicians we deserve by being obsessed with short-term superficial issues rather than the real problems.
I don’t think advertising is the main problem – the examples you give in the video are fuelled by peer pressure (travel) and convenience (nappies)rather than advertising. It’s your decision if you are seduced by adverts – let’s just ensure they tell the whole story.

Agree that advertising is not the main problem – it wasn’t presented as such in the video. The fact that we are human (we are our top priority) and that we consume is the main problem.

Disagree that it is your decision if you are seduced by adverts – we don’t have complete control over our subconscious minds and that’s where the messages hit. It’s the same with social conditioning – as you say, maybe we get what we deserve.

As Lindsay says, we need LEADERS who have a long term vision. The present political structure vitiates against this.
Perhaps this structure has to change.

we do get what we deserve. Make shit & buy shit, you will live in shit and leave shit. I know it´s impossible to be conscious with every decision you make (grocery shopping will take days) but awareness is the key.
we do need leaders who will decide for us. We of course will protest like spoiled little brats if life gets al little less comfortable. But like spoiled little brats, we will also know it really for the best.
    Anyone up for the job?

in my own micro environment I try to be a good example for my childeren (be a good leader) but I must honestly confess it is tough to have a long term focus and not choose for convenience in short term instead …

I totally agree with this video. Not only do leaders who are politicians needs to start making some difficult decisions, but leaders in large organizations as well. At the moment, there are few multinationals who are willing to take longer term decision making into account, because their rewards are not linked to it. Maybe politicians also need a reward system based on longer term issues?

Amazing video. I totally agree with it and politicians need to take action now before its too late!

  8. Patti Singleton Says:

Good quality video, thoughtful and the aims are attainable at each and everyone’s level. We should boycott over-packaged non-biodegradable products in the Supermarkets – we could each be leaders in those respects and the powerful Supermarkets might start listening instead of the token effort they show at present.
