Destroyed

A short film aiming to highlight the dangers of Climate Change, in the style of a Hollywood disaster movie trailer. This film was made using mostly still images and screen shots from Google Earth that have been animated. Created by Tom Marshall. Music by Dancing Lotus, used with kind permission from Luke Billing.

How on earth does this highlight the dangers of climate change? By showing meteors striking the earth? The music by Dancing Lotus is more of an immediate danger :)

  2. Dominic Lyddon Says:

Thanks for the nice comment on mine. Yes yours has very nice editing and feel to it the music works I reckon. The meteors will not help it though as you said in the video a bit over the top and not linked to global warming. The idea is very close to one I was thinking of doing. It was going to be a time capsule video for who ever finds it in the future – like a news report but showing the end of the human race. Any way I will give you five stars to bring ya average up – seems theres lots of people giving extra low stars to people – always happens in online voting!

@ crackers-impact events, such as meteor projectiles on earth, have been known to give rise to massive climate change for a very VERY long time you know. after all one of the most viable scientific consensus is that a meteor collision is what caused the demise of the dinosaurs, 250 million years back. ejections from these meteorites change the earth’s atmospheric conditions so drastically that…well species just die and become extinct you see. didn’t you know that? :P

however, it’s true that meteor impacts is not an anthropological cause of climate change.so we are not the ones to ‘blame’ in this case!

but i think this film was supposed to have more of a metaphorical meaning, than suggest that we are doomed to literally burn to death from a stream of fiery astronomical assaults (although its not all that unlikely anyway)

this is a great work of art tom marshall :)
check out my video if you want- You and Your World :D

  4. Milady Says:

very good. and loved the humour at the end. really like the trailer style.

  5. Tom Marshall Says:

    Thanks for all your comments,

I’m a bit worried that the meteors and explosions have been taken too literally.

Niyonta n.Ch has the right idea; they’re supposed to be a metaphor in that we see hundreds of Hollywood movies showing the earth being destroyed by meteors, alien attacks etc whereas the real danger is what we’re doing to the planet ourselves, often without realising it.

    Cheers, Tom.

    Nice work Tom

  7. Elizabeth Stevens Says:

    Great work!

Clearly, our planet is under attack, ironically by the very species that boasts of being the most superior. Superior, my hind leg!

Your video works beautifully, juxtaposing image metaphors with text and dialogue that put the images into perspective.

Very, very well done and clearly the result of great filmmaking talent. Thumbs way up!

  8. Tom Marshall Says:

Thanks Elizabeth, that’s much appreciated :D

Nice work, I think so called “Crackers” hasn’t got the real idea behind this work. Far too critical for someone who cannot see the meaning behind the work.
Well done, the production values are high, and the message clear.

    Hi Tom,

I Just stumbled upon your video and i think it is well made, captures the audience and helps make the viewer feel guilty/responsible for how our climate is turning out to be. The music is a good choice stimulating emotion and how you have edited (unless it is originally like this) is well suited to the flow of the short film.
The explosions are likely to happen by volcano’s and other eruptions from the centre of our earth. I did think maybe the stuff falling down was evolved acid rain, but other users believe its missiles? can you confirm on this?

Thanks & Keep up the work..
    Bernard

Great film. Very well made. (Loved the dog :) ) it was the music that hit me most. Was Crackers taking the mick out of the music, because I actually liked it. If they were, then they are definately (Crackers) :) It made me take notice. The meteors hitting the buildings were well done too. It certainly makes you think about what things could happen if we dont start changing things. 5 stars from me.

  12. Gareth Jones Says:

Take my hat off to you Tom; that us one Classic film

  13. Silvia Says:

    VERY NICE!! good job

  14. Dean Lockwood Says:

I get it, the apocalypse is already happening. Better than Roland Emmerich.

  15. John Raisen Says:

Well produced Tom. It brings the message home.

  16. Juicy Says:

Metaphorical meteorites, makes a lot of sense! Isn’t the prospect of the end of the world worthy of a bit of melodrama anyway? Enjoyed it, beautifully edited.

  17. Friend of a friend Says:

Pity that people dont realise, that it is our children and their children that will have to deal with all the damage that our generation is causing, because we will not be around then, and I must say I’m glad I wont be around to see it happen. Good luck to them though.

Hey Tom- this is great! We can always make comments but it is a great effort and makes a mark. I always remeber the Lipton supermarket adverts set to music in the late 60′s:- “Lipton’s make your money go round” and the last part is out of tune so it is memorable for this deliberate mistake. Going over the top often sparks debate and debate is publicity. There is no one view but very many as you can see from all the other comments. Excellent and good luck- TOM
