  11. carmela uranga Says:

The horrifying situation of our environment is tackled with humour and wit in this brilliant film which in just one minute turns us into the monsters and those whacky aliens into intelligent and incredulous onlookers.

  12. Claire Stewart Says:

Thank God for the subtitltes – but I couldn’t have said it better myself! I figure this is why we have not been visited by aliens, they would clearly observe us as an inferior life form signing our own death warrant. We must each change our individual behaviours and lobby Government, one without the other is useless. Happy Monday everyone :)

  13. Dietlind Lerner Says:

What we are doing to our planet with the lame pretext of “business as usual” (its just my job… its cheaper) is outrageous. Bravo space aliens for seeing our folly and expressing it so clearly.

  50. Jean Marie Thierry Says:

Good movie and as a french man I even did not need the translation!

  51. George Littlejohn Says:

Just how Earth media would handle an important story like climate change. Under a minute. So like reality. Want to watch it again.

  52. Stacey Says:

Over produced. What was your carbon foot print for the production of this 1 minute film ? Quite high I would image. 3/10.

  53. Stuart Roweth Says:

    Stuart’s response to Stacey’s comment:
The figures for the power used on this film are as follows:
    Lighting: 2 kilowatts for 2 hours = 4 kw/hrs.
    Computer time: 24 hrs x 200 watts = 4.8 kw/hrs
Total: 8.8 kw/hrs = 4.7 kg CO2 – this is the equivalent of a 25 mile journey in a small family car. (To offset: I work with trees and we have planted over 300 this year)
The electricity bill is paid to Ecotricity who reinvest in renewable energy.
The alien costumes were recycled and not made specifically for this project.
The filming took place in our house with no specific journeys made.
In our opinion this makes for a very small amount of carbon emissions for an important message.

  54. Stuart Roweth Says:

    I forgot to include the video camera’s power consumption: 3 hrs x 25 watts = 0.075 kw/hr. This equals 0.04 kg CO2

  55. Milady Says:

absolutely brilliant. very well done, and totally convincing!

and to Stacey – Have some sense of proportion. This problem requires big changes, not a little ‘cutting back’ and this competition is part of helping that groundswell of (changed) opinion which is necessary before our people let/ make our politicians undertake those changes. This book might be useful for helping you understand some of those challenges. It basically does the sums of how we move forward so we can focus on the things that matter and can make a difference – http://withouthotair.com/

  56. Stacey Says:

Aaahh speaking of hot air, if you are so pedantic could you calculate the joules emitted from your lighting and other items for such time? Maybe you should have spent as much time on your script as you did in your reply. A predictable and well used naive treatment, I read your message( in film) within the first second, so the other123 seconds were a waste, think of the energy you could have saved! Your entry is totally predictable and frankly lazy, strip stock shots together and dub a voice over, sorry sub titles. It made me cringe, and it is not funny. If you really wanted to get the message over and for it to stick you need to be unique and original, frankly …. 1/10 for the first second

  57. Malcolm Says:

Poor sad earthings! Geat film. I like the ‘Newsround’ feel to it. It would work very well on CBBC.

  58. Andrea Says:

Excelent production qualities but the message was a bit weak.

  59. KD Says:

    Excellent.

Stacey: would love to see the alternative you’ve come up with.

  60. Jessica Ogdon Says:

Loved the film. Clever to have conveyed all that in a minute. Funky alien.

  61. Karthick Says:

Would like to more about the alien’s planet and living conditions..from their looks and dressing, it doesn’t look very normal though :P

Certainly a very good idea and very well executed..very finely directed.

    Karthick

  62. Nuhash Humayun Says:

Another nicely made, well produced crime. If everyone in the world decided to handle the most serious problems with flamboyance and 6th grade humour…imagine what kind of a place it would be.
Yes, I’ve learnt something from your video. We all have…How could we not? Its just talent-flaunting. You’ll need a lot more than a pretty-creative-kinda-different-idea-for-a-climate-change-video to hide the fact that this work doesn’t provide anything constructive.
Don’t get me wrong, I respect your motivation and resourcefulness. A rarity in itself- you know how to get people’s attention. And with a little help, you’ll know how to inform them as well.

  63. Niyonta n.Ch Says:

    brilliant brilliant brilliant.
    i worship this video.

  64. cath Says:

In a competition, there are always finalists and those who don’t get through. The problem we had was that there were so many fantastic videos to choose from that there was inevitably going to be great films that didn’t make it, especially as we had to meet a criteria for each category.

However, we’ve decided to rectify this a little and reward 5 more great videos. These have been added to the shortlist and will also guaranteed receive a subscription to Shooting People. They will be on our homepage soon.

    The five videos are:

Tank head, Nature finds a way, Paving the planet, Earth clock, Restore the earth
