Vivid, Clear and spell bounding. Excellent choice of background score as well. All in all, a great compilation which captures the essence of what would be lost if no action is taken!!
September 11th, 2009 at 4:34 am
Message very well conveyed through this brilliant composition. good job!
September 11th, 2009 at 4:41 am
simple movie with clear ideas to reinforce idea of Climate change..
September 11th, 2009 at 4:42 am
Hi Karthik,
This is a good work. I will wait for more quick clips like this from you depicting how we can save the world by doing small small day to day activities.
Please do make lots of another 1 minute videos and pull us all together to save our world.

Pravin

A wonderful compilation, very well shows what we might miss out on if we don’t act now to save the blessings of nature.
P.S, Liked the sequencing/selection of pictures, and the background music truly reflects the irony of the situation.
A job well done dude!!
September 11th, 2009 at 5:09 am
awesome video… good compilation of pics!
September 11th, 2009 at 6:16 am
This is a wonderful video. A very nice thought Karthick. A need of the hour!!
September 11th, 2009 at 6:28 am
The Video was taken with set of pictures which i took during my treks and trips in South india. Every one around the world has been showing lot of negatives to act against Climate change but i believe showing the positives and beauty of nature will influence the mind and heart of people to act against negative climate change. Comments are welcome.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:35 am
The visuals and the background music gel very well together. I also like the way this video is unique in promoting the idea of climate change. Simple awesome!!!!
September 11th, 2009 at 9:38 am
The collections are wonderful. Positive approach will have more leverage to reach the heart of the people. Well done. all the best
September 11th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Hey thats gr8. Keep it up
September 11th, 2009 at 10:29 am
great video, we all know we want our future generations to view, feel and enjoy the beauty of mother earth
September 11th, 2009 at 10:49 am
It’s definitely individual responsibility to give back what we have taken from our nature. Firstly it lies in becoming aware of what nature has provided to us and then if you can’t give it back, at least please don’t destroy it recklessly.
“Excellent initiative to save the world “
September 11th, 2009 at 11:28 am
This video brings in a self-realisation of how a day unfolds naturally and beautifully around us and leaves a subtle message on self-responsbility for everyone to safeguard the natural phenomenon!
September 11th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I wanted to use the power of music to deliver the irony that if such a beautiful and wonderful world is not taken care of properly, we will lose it. Thanks a ton to Dan Berridge’s Wonderful collection from Broadway project. I chose “Hermas” from the list and it suited the theme and video.
September 11th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
You’ve beautifully woven pictures into a thought showcasing Nature and its varied beauty. You haven’t shown us how climate change is bad, or how its affecting us, but mate, you just showed us, what we’re going to miss. Awesome Video!
September 11th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
can we able to retain these beauties of the mother nature? The answer is yes if we act fast and now
September 11th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Its nice movie.. depicting the beauty of nature.. we should keep that for our next generations..
September 11th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Good work ! Beauty of nature in pictures !

I think some of you might be wondering what is this video got to do with “Save the world” And “Climate Change”. Right from Kyoto protocol and even before that, people around were and are still discussing on the negatives of global warming. I do agree that that is one way to create awareness. But, For a long time, for decades and centuries, we have taken this wonderful nature for granted. We don’t realize our mistakes and blunder, unless nature punishes or retaliates. I want to highlight that wonderful world which we are taking for granted. Once the viewer realizes that this beauty has to be respected and preserved, my objective is accomplished. It is a wonderful world. Don’t Destroy it. It is our responsibility……

September 13th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Sure, nice pictures. but kinda boring video if u ask me. i forgot what it was i was watching half way through. not exciting enough. really dont see why this vid is first place…
September 13th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
This video conveys the intended message in a very simple and nice manner. It also contains some nice visuals and the images look genuine ( I mean not photoshop-ed ). Nice video.
September 13th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
@All: Thanks a lot for taking your time to comment and vote for me. This 1 minute video has brought us together and more closer in thought and action than our years of friendship…
Thanks one and all.. Do let your friends and colleagues know about this….
September 13th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
The background score is excellent and connects to the pictures and theme very well. Moreover i like the postive approach which the video has taken instead of scaremongering which climate change activists have embraced
September 13th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Good video dude, way to go saving the world in a minute….
September 13th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
I was thinking how i could have made this movie better.. and one option which i thought of was.. adding captions and text to the pictures…But… Then if every thing has to be said in words..then the medium of music and movies loses its power. This 1 minute video is sure an experiment. I have tried to be really unconventional to drive home a message which generally requires strong visuals and wordings…Here,
I want the viewer to see each picture’s request placed before us through the medium of music in the back ground…To save and help them preserve their beauty…
September 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Excellent framing of pictures and nice background music… Expecting more of this sort from you…
September 13th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Background score suits the pictures’ transition really well. Nice way to depict your theme “Its a Wonderful world”. All the best dude.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:43 am

LAME
September 14th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Nothing special…
September 15th, 2009 at 3:29 am
@Martin, @Zack -A Video is nothing but sequence of images… I do accept there is nothing special in this video but this is just my $0.02 and this is the way i know to express my opinion.A Critics’ job is always easy..But don’t be only a critic….. Leave me a suggestion on how to improve… that would be in the spirit of the competition…Hope you take my request in a positive way…
September 15th, 2009 at 5:13 am

September 15th, 2009 at 11:17 am
A nice remainder of the world beyond the concrete jungles and its untouched beauty.
September 15th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
When I think about Climate Change and the irresponsible behavior of Human beings I remember this dialogue from the movie ‘The Matrix’ in which Agent Smith says to Morpheus as
“Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.”
How true those lines are.. We have gotta act swiftly and create awareness amongst people. This video is distinct as it shows the beauty of Nature and approaches the problem in a positive way. Good Job dude.
September 16th, 2009 at 12:20 am
The video is simply awesome and the music blends really well and conveys the theme..I really liked the message you wanted to convey public by taking up this issue. Its a very appreciative effort and keep up the good work.

Nice Video. I love the music and the sequence of pics! All the best
Kalpana.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:14 am
Few Q&A: (Fearing there might be some more Viewers like Martin and Zack who disagree with my video…)
1. What is the theme of the competition?
“Save the world”
2. What I DID NOT WANT TO SHOW?
* That the world will end soon…
* There will be lot of floods, cyclones, calamities, black holes etc…
* We will fight for a bottle of water
I simply DON’T BELIEVE, “change” can be caused by “panic and fear”..
3. What did I WANT TO SHOW in this video?
* There are lot of simple things which are wonderful around us.
* We think of them as either “LAME” or “NOTHING SPECIAL” or “NOT EXCITING”.(this is the root cause for disaster!!!)
* When we appreciate and become conscious of those simple beautiful things, we end up realizing the real beauty of the world.
* If you realize that, you are sure not going to destroy the world..
4. How can we save the world?
* By planting trees (Not every one are going to do this. They do this on some special occasion. But for the remaining 300 odd days, they destroy the same trees…..)
* By becoming conscious and appreciative of little and subtle things (living and non-living) around us. Looking closer into nature. Realizing there is life from the microscopic world to the macroscopic world.
This point mentioned above is a difficult thing to implement. But i STRONGLY BELIEVE only by “CHANGE WITH IN” we can “SAVE THIS WORLD”. The “CHANGE WITH IN” comes only when every one implements the point above. I have conveyed the same point in my video using Music and pictures.
If every thing has to be said in words, Then that would become an essay or elocution competition. Please do not watch this video with prejudiced opinion.
Thanks and sorry for the long post….
Karthick

Beautiful film , the positive approach to showing what could be lost is a good idea instead of trying to show what could be. The music score is apt, some visuals were fuzzy but may be the lens and lighting. But a commendable effort.
October 1st, 2009 at 8:53 am
Very good effort and I appreciate it. However for a contest video, the message is very indirectly conveyed. Self Awareness as one big step in an effort to save world from climate changes is a weak message. Something more dramatic, is my preference. Something that makes people sit up and take note. All the same, great effort. Keep it up.
October 1st, 2009 at 9:46 am
Hi Karthik,
I applaud your effort in contributing to a good cause. As a short
film I would rate it below average. It looks like a power point presentation
with a good background music. Even the pics dont have a great impact.
The frame with sun focuses on the bridge, the focus on
frame with squirrel isn’t right. There is no flow, only distinct pics that
doesn’t convey the message in your write-up.
It’s a good start but you have to fine tune your skills.
October 1st, 2009 at 12:50 pm
hi viji,
thanks for sharing your perspective on my video. I will surely fine tune my skills. Please read the following link http://www.1minutetosavetheworld.com/2009/09/its-a-wonderful-world/#comment-258 for “what was in my mind” while making this video.
To convey my “subtle message” in “my write-up” would have been more appropriate for an essay competition.
Karthick
October 1st, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Though this video might look like the so called power point presentation,
*) I believe that when one small hammer is enough to open a lock, you don’t need a big shot gun. But it is the highly subjective nature of this video seems to stop some people from unlocking…
*) I think and strongly believe that my relatively weak but a very important message ( http://www.1minutetosavetheworld.com/2009/09/its-a-wonderful-world/#comment-258 ) is more efficiently conveyed through set of non - linear pictures than using some sequential fast moving frames..
*)Any critique on why the idea might fail will help my intellectual ability improve…
Try this exercise:
Tell to yourself “It’s a wonderful world” before you start the day. When ever you see some thing against nature, Think and implement , how to make it wonderful….so that you can truly believe that “It’s a wonderful world”. This helped me. But this is again subjective…
Please continue to drop in your comments and criticisms…
October 1st, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Nice piece of work!! A wonderful collection of “Nature at it’s best” woven with excellent piece of soothing music…
Keep the good work going…

Your Video really SUX dude………..be original….all pics stolen from internet and just made a slide…………………………….it doesnt deserve to be Here
October 3rd, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Hi Karthick,
Excellent effort! Some of the visuals are stunning and hopefully everyone sees what they would miss if Climate change happens.
I guess you could also expand this video to include some of the nice things in life that would become impossible with climate change - like rise in ocean’s level, migratory birds etc
Great work, All the best,

or does it stink too much??? May be we can use this for Bio gas preparation!! what say umesh?? Why don’t you recommend it your self….
October 4th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
! This is funny who is this umesh? Must be somone with a video in the competition or somthing…trying to work it out…Umesh you know 20 videos go through - not just all the high rated ones then the judges choose in the end so it will probably be the one you never expected to win wins!
October 5th, 2009 at 3:28 am
Umesh as per my investigation is one of the participants, who posted “At the edge of life” Video… May be not..Only he can confirm it… who ever, Umesh who has commented in my post is a really funny guy(Comedian sorts of…) i suppose….and i know that there will be no reward for the last guess!!!

I ll put my argument/justification again.
Change Can never be caused by Fear and Panic.
Change can only be caused by Good will and hope.
I have made an attempt to inflict Change on every one’s mind by trying to show all wonderful things i came across.
A Simple thought and belief. i believe it will work.
I hope my point is understood.

Wonderful Video.More such 1 minute videos are required to save this world. This must be shown at all primary schools, colleges etc everyday. It should catch the children young. In every state, there must be a congregationof Govt Officials,Corporates and other decision makers to be addressed by children to save this world.Fervent and pathetic appeal must be made by children, which will change the attitude of people.

Very nice choice of music, pleasant montage.
well done!karthik.
October 12th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
the music is the most soothing thing i have heard for a documentary.
the pictures are awesome and i know they are your own pics as i saw some of them on our trek and some were taken in front of me.
the documentary is not complete i feel,
my concern is- as the topic is “one minute to save the world”
where is that message integrated in the slide- u have to use some pics showing how one act is destroying the nature- eg- people throwing plastic stuff on nature trails and
one act showing how someone is saving the nature-being conservationist eg- a person collecting garbage or being careful
October 13th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Thanks a lot pramodhini for your comment. I do agree with you i could have shown the negatives and positives..but my video is not a message rather just an attempt to make people aware of beauty around them. The simplest and easiest way to stop climate change is becoming aware of the little beautiful things around you… By becoming aware, you understand them. When you understand, you like them. I don’t think so you will destroy any thing which you like.
I have given a permanent solution. Just the world leaders promising to cut down green house gas emissions by 20% will not save the world. Change has to happen from the Microscopic level (I mean every single individual’s contribution matters….)
As Gandhi preached, i am trying to promote awareness by showing beautiful work of nature to create change “From the grounds up…”
Hope my point is proved…
Thanks again for your interest and suggestion. I will include your ideas in my future work.
Thanks
Karthick

Dude pretty good stuff, i liked it… Keep it up
October 20th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Its ok but a little simple. How does this one have so many votes!
October 21st, 2009 at 5:23 am
Hi Andrea,
So many votes? If i should account for it…
1. It has been in this website for over a month
2. my social network and friends
3. competitors
4. My parents’ social network and friends.
Say like 500 votes and it has been for over 50 days… so around 10 votes per day which looks reasonable to me…will you disagree with my math??
In a way, this competition helps me understand “Six degrees of separation….”
And about the simplicity, precisely that is what my video conveys. The solution for the problem we face is simple. But it is difficult to adopt and practice it in our every day life. As that microscopic change happens across all the walks of life, there will be considerable impact on our environment.
If you look deeper into history, take for eg: french revolution, Do you think such revolution could happen just due to few leaders making some decisions??? No, it was a result of out burst of the public…the change in attitude of every one right out there in public.
What we need is a revolution!! You, me , them and every one have to change. I have proposed in my video, a simple solution to bring the change. Appreciate the world around you. Try to see the beauty from the microscopic to macroscopic.
I have tried to harness the irony of the background music as well. If we don’t change, we might have to look for an alternative…. That is why i have placed a picture of moon at the end.
My friends who ever know me, have understood the meaning i have subtly conveyed through my video. For others who think that this is just a random sequence of pictures, Please watch it again. This video has many dimensions and it was as if Dan’s music was done exactly for this!!!!
Thanks to 1minutetosavetheworld.com team!!!
Thanks

POSTED ON BEHALF OF KARTHICK -
Thanks All. It was a wonderful experience to be part of a very nice campaign against climate change.
Just to summarize few of my justifications, clarifications for making a very very simple video.
Change Can never be caused by Fear and Panic.
Change can only be caused by Good will and hope.
I have made an attempt to inflict Change on every oneís mind by trying to show all wonderful things i came across.
A Simple thought and belief. i believe it will work.

Hey Dave and Bensen,
I am really really tired of guys like you. How many justifications and explanations should i give? This platform is not about winning or losing.
I made a point. I spread about this as best as i can…If you don’t like the idea, that is fine.
I really feel bad that so many people have such poor attitudes and completely lack diplomacy and creativity. This i think is the biggest problem. I don’t mind being harassed but every stone you guys throw at me, i am going to turn it around to a milestone for me.
This competition helped me discover lot of my hidden talents, public speaking skills.I was able to make more than a 300 people aware about climate change. I had discussions with some of the best minds in IIT, IISc, IMSc (premier institutes in India). I was able to talk about this to lot of MBA students/budding entrepreneurs around my place.
This is what matters to me most. I am satisfied with my work and my idea is convincing enough for me. i believe this will work. Change at the heart of every one is what is required. A revolution….
I have placed a picture of moon at the end of my video to portray that that is the alternative we have at the moment. If we don’t stop what we are doing, we should at the least, start bothering about an alternative.
The subtle and ironical background score and the sequence of images narrate a simple story. All i have tried is , make each picture ask you a question….. “Don’t I look wonderful? Do you want me to be destroyed?” …..
It is still a wonderful world. we are witnessing climatic changes due to complex mix of geographical problems. There are also reasons due to “El Nino” cycles. If you say, Gangotri glacier is receding due to climate change, why is siachen glacier advancing?
We understand that climate change is happening for true but we should be happy that there is still ample amount of time to tackle it.
Some videos portray as if the world is going to end tomorrow and as if drought will prevail. I think those are unscientific and dramatic. More over, i don’t think so it will help in changing any body’s thought process. All it will provoke is fear and if i should exaggerate, it will result in war.
No wonder, some human minds are incapable of accepting simple ideas and solutions. Hope the almighty alleviate that disparity in world. Make every one think on simple lines… Life would be a lot more simpler.

A note to all those who did not understand my video:
PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND… CLIMATE CHANGE IS AS MUCH A PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEM AS A GEOGRAPHICAL ISSUE.
If you look back at history, we have been through more difficult times, more difficult climatic changes that too with out any assistance of technological advances which we have now….We have amazing technology now. All we need is start using it for “COLLECTIVE GOODNESS”….
My video is all about a simple call for change from with in self. I ask through every picture a question to the Human consciousness…All the images i show would become victims of climate change if we don’t act wisely..except the last two images..
Humans are an exception. We are like viruses..I bet we will survive any damn crisis….That’s why i show a guy sitting atop of a peak and wondering about an alternative if in case if we fail to stop climate change… Moon in the last image appears as a possible alternative…I know the man will make it there one day…I hope that he does not forsake his mother planet Earth….So i cry aloud..
IT’S A WONDERFUL WORLD…DON’T DESTROY IT……
It is guys like Dave, bensen who say that this video is dry…provoke my anger. More than anger, it depresses me… Guys, I am not dumb to put a sequence of images just like that and send it to an international film festival…I think i deserve a place to post my opinion, suggestions and possible solution.
Thanks to 1minutetosavetheworld.com again for giving me an wonderful opportunity.
Thanks
Karthick
P.S : Actually, I decided to make this video this way after listening to the background score “Hermas” by Dan Berridge…My complete idea for this competition was influenced by his beautiful composition. Hope i have not brought disgrace to that…

In a competition, there are always finalists and those who don’t get through. The problem we had was that there were so many fantastic videos to choose from that there was inevitably going to be great films that didn’t make it, especially as we had to meet a criteria for each category.
However, we’ve decided to rectify this a little and reward 5 more great videos. These have been added to the shortlist and will also guaranteed receive a subscription to Shooting People. They will be on our homepage soon.
The five videos are:
Tank head, Nature finds a way, Paving the planet, Earth clock, Restore the earth
WHAT WAFFLE FROM THE JUDGES THESE FILMS SHOULD BE REMOVED!
THIS COMPETITION HAS BEEN CORRUPTED!

Cath if we follow that line 12 videos will have to be removed as only 20 were going to be chosen!! I think the judges were right, they said before they got many more entries than they first thought! What is the problem with a few more video anyway?
