The Devolution of the Wheel

This is a short stop motion photo animation. It shows the use of the wheel over time and how we can use it to be green instead of destructive. Let’s start biking uphill… Submitted by Indi Ordonez, UK

i don’t understand. why devolution? without the wheel we would be burning astronomic quantities of fuel in any motorised engine. explain?

Another confusing video, What was the message?! Use a bike? Pretty weak!

A little dismayed by some of the comments here. I think you have to look a little beyond what you see is what you get. It’s not a patronising video. The concept is a metaphor as much as a literal advocation for the bicycle, suggesting that our use of technology has been in an environmentally downward trend and perhaps it’s time that we started looking at ways to use the increasingly sophisticated technology available to us in an ecologically positive manner.

And in reply to Jean: devolution because thats exactly what has been happening. Notice the bicycle is going uphill – hence changing the downhill trend.

    Imagination people…

sweet. a most purposeful and smart use of creativity.
great work on the animation and the use of visual progressive alliteration.
most importantly, great work on the message put through.
one problem though-if the cycle is supposed to be going uphill in the end, its not clear at all.ground looks very flat.

In a competition, there are always finalists and those who don’t get through. The problem we had was that there were so many fantastic videos to choose from that there was inevitably going to be great films that didn’t make it, especially as we had to meet a criteria for each category.

However, we’ve decided to rectify this a little and reward 5 more great videos. These have been added to the shortlist and will also guaranteed receive a subscription to Shooting People. They will be on our homepage soon.

    The five videos are:

Tank head, Nature finds a way, Paving the planet, Earth clock, Restore the earth

WHAT WAFFLE FROM THE JUDGES THESE FILMS SHOULD BE REMOVED!

    THIS COMPETITION HAS BEEN CORRUPTED!
