Year 6 at Middle Row Primary School
To vote for each video run your mouse over the stars above to give the video a rating.
Like many children, Year 6, are concerned for the world they will inherit. This film is an opportunity to make their voices heard and focuses on the growing issue of waste; something we all need to address. The film reflects on the consequences of thoughtless consumption and conveys their bewildered reaction. The facts on waste generation are shocking but it continues regardless. Not enough can be/is recycled and we are running out of spaces to dump it. Our unsustainable level of consumption is exhausting the world’s resources and creating an almighty, toxic mess! Children want adults to sort it out-please. Submitted by Glyn Reed, UK

Thanks so much and well done guys - you’re all stars. Just to reassure you there are some adults trying very hard to get the waste issue sorted. Keep the love high and make sure you take a bag with when you shop with adults just like you wear your school bag. We need you to help us by example - when we see you do it we’ll do it!

Top marks from me. We need to see more images of sprawling land fill sites on TV every day, maybe that will help make people think twice about what they throw away.

November 4th, 2009 at 1:20 am
A incredible accomplishment, you should all be very Proud of yourselves! This Message needs to be passed along to EVERYONE we know. It is a worldwide epidemic.
I have seen pictures of trees downwind of mexico city that are dead as they have been completely covered in discarded plastic shopping bags that had blown over them like some sort of a second skin or macabre and bizarre holiday decoration.
This is a well thought out and very poignant video, i am going to post it on my blog and do my part to pass it on! Thank You!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:23 am

November 4th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Wonderful well done year 6, your all great!
Really good to see the children learning about and raising awareness of the global situation we are facing. More important than maths and literacy in my opinion anyway!
If us as an individual and a nation don’t take notice to these issues and take action now, these kids-OUR KIDS, will really feel the effects of the mindless actions of the past generations and our dying planet!
Give our kids a life SAVE OUR EARTH!!
Love from Lorans Mum

November 5th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Well done Yr 6 Middle Row. I’d remember to walk with my bag instead of plastic!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:08 am
I remember the lyrics to a song when I was a kid growing up in the 80’s it went ” We are the future of the earth we are the next generation”
I am ashamed to say my generation has contributed to the degradation of the Earth’s ecology more than any other. That is why engagement of young minds at such a age is so vitally important. This video is to the point, very now and very encouraging. Well Done Middle Row Primary!
November 5th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Well done Middle Row Primary. You have my vote. Tescos need to take note!
November 5th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I think this is a fantastic video. We should all use those nice hessian bags and ditch the plastic. All supermarkets should sell the products loose and without all that packaging. When I was a girl everything was sold that way and our dustbins were only used for dust - hence the name
November 5th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Yes and we should stop producing so much rubbish in the first place! Even recycling is pollutive, allot of people think its ok we recycle it and they end up making more pollution/rubbish than if the recycling wasn’t there in the beginning!
November 5th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Well said. We don’t need so much packaging and we should try to recycle as much as possible
November 5th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Well said. We don’t need so much packaging and we should try to recycle as much as possible. It’s a few second effort only…

November 6th, 2009 at 11:45 am
If everyone did their bit for recycling, the world would be a much cleaner place. However, I am glad that you have highlighted the fact that manufacturers also create a lot of waste with their packaging. Hopefully they will take this on board and change the way our goods are packaged, for the benefit of the planet. Well Done Year 6!!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 11:48 am

In a competition, there are always finalists and those who don’t get through. The problem we had was that there were so many fantastic videos to choose from that there was inevitably going to be great films that didn’t make it, especially as we had to meet a criteria for each category.
However, we’ve decided to rectify this a little and reward 5 more great videos. These have been added to the shortlist and will also guaranteed receive a subscription to Shooting People. They will be on our homepage soon.
The five videos are:
Tank head, Nature finds a way, Paving the planet, Earth clock, Restore the earth
WHAT WAFFLE FROM THE JUDGES THESE FILMS SHOULD BE REMOVED!
THIS COMPETITION HAS BEEN CORRUPTED!
